AdaptivCool™ takes a holistic approach to Data Center cooling. By combining thermal analysis, active and passive airflow, and advanced controls technology, Data Center cooling is supplied when, where, and at the right quantity needed. The result is the only dynamic and adaptive cooling solution that can be retrofitted or designed into 99% of raised floor Data Centers without infrastructure changes. Stranded and excess cooling capacity is put to good use (or put on standby) through an intelligent network of environmental sensors and airmovers with an interface to the Computer Room Air Conditioner (CRAC) units. The strategically located airmovers are invisible, unobtrusive, and capable of cooling racks up to 10 kW in existing raised floor Data Centers or sites with airflow limiting obstructions. Intelligent algorithms sense and compensate for CRAC failures or CRAC maintenance by balancing the need for cooling airflow in the affected area with available cooling elsewhere in the Data Center.
The design philosophy for the components of the AdaptivCool system is simple: 100% availability, 100% of the time, with no downtime to install. Redundancy is achieved by a simple but effective three tier design. A web browser interface provides the Data Center operator with convenient environmental and system status, while user configurable alarms are provided by e-mail or SNMP.
