Demand Based Cooling

Demand Based Cooling (DBC) is a total systems level approach to optimizing Data Center Airflow. Comprehensive data center computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis and best practices are coupled with an advanced active airflow management system which monitors and manages CRAC units and adds networked adaptive airmovers to improve data center cooling efficency and redundancy. Since many data centers are overcooled but have airflow distribution issues, by actively controlling airflow and cooling, both efficiency (PUE) and cooling capacity are radically transformed. Data center cooling efficiency is improved by 20 to 40%, in the typical case, while cooling redundancy is simultaneously enhanced.

Remote environmental monitoring, trending, and alarming over secure IP communications allow operators at any location to monitor the health of one or more data centers. The entire process of monitoring and reporting can be provided as an ongoing service if desired, alleviating organizations from having to dedicate resources to this function. The entire process of implementing DBC has been designed from the outset to be completely non-disruptive to the 24xForever operations of the data center. By dynamically provisioning data center cooling, energy savings of 20-40% are typical. Many customers choose to use this added efficiency to install more servers in the same space.
